THE GAMBER CENTER, located at 4 SE Independence Ave, Lee's Summit MO (located at the southwest corner of 2nd and Independence Ave), is Lee's Summit's premier community and fitness and adult education center. The Gamber Center offers a variety of adult educational courses, as well as luncheons, trips, and other activities where people can meet friends, share ideas,and learn new hobbies and crafts. The Gamber Center is open Monday-Friday: 6am - 9pm; Saturday: 8am - 5pm; and Sunday: 12 - 4pm. "Lunch With Us" at the Gamber Center

Enjoy a meal, friendship, and fun! Cost: $5.00 each. Pre-register by the dates indicated.

Hawaiian Luau :Grab your grass skirt or flowered shirt, and feast on tropical delights. We will enjoy pineapple chicken and rice, vegetable medley, fruit salad, and coconut cream pie. Date/Time: Th 8/21/08 12-1 p.m.; Deadline for reservation(s): 8/14/2008

Patriot Day : A time to honor and remember those who perished that fateful day. The Senior Serenadors share a few patriotic songs. We will serve some old-fashioned favorites: roast beef, mashed potatoes, and gravy, green beans, and apple pie. Date/Time: Th 9/11/08 12-1 p.m.; Deadline for reservation(s): 9/4/08.
Tour of Italy :Enjoy the music of Italy as you dine on antipasto, Caesar salad, pasta and meatballs, and a special dessert! Date/Time: Th 10/16/08 12-1 p.m.; Deadline for reservation(s): 10/09/08.
"Bingo and Lunch:" Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Fee: $6.00/person, includes lunch. Payment taken at door; games are free. Contac the Gamber Center for more information regarding dates and deadlines for reservations.

Computer Course Offerings at the Gamber Center (Offerings and Availability May Be Subject to Change)
Intro. to Basic Computer: General information about your computer, including use of the "mouse," basic terminology, and word processing. Intro. to the Internet: Learn how to access the internet and properly use internet services. Explore different search engines, and research various topics of interest.
Photoshop Overview: Introduction to some of the powerful tools and functions of Photoshop. Topics include cropping, adjusting colors, converting color images to black and white, the use of artistic filters, and more. Intro. to Digital Photography: Overview of common functions and terms used in digital photography. Explores digital software, printing, and emailing digital photos as well.

Arts and Crafts at the Gamber Center

Card Making: Make and take a beautiful card. All supplies are furnished. Flower Arranging: Make and take a beautiful basket, wreath, or floral arrangement. Fee includes all materials and instruction.
Quilting Lessons: Learn to make a beautiful placemat, and then decide what your next project will be. The Instructor will contact you to let you know what supplies to purchase. Intro. to Water Color: Learn the basics, and paint your very first picture. Fee includes all supplies.
Water Color: Expand your skills as your instructor takes you to new levels of creativity. All supplies furnished. Some basic experience required. Intro. to Ceramics: Create a small bisque ceramic piece, your choice of paints. Tools and supplies provided, additional bisque art work may be purchased.
Intro. to Fused Glass: Your choice of dichroic glass pendant, earrings, suncatcher, or two coasters. Tools and supplies provided excluding dichroic glass or bails for pendant and earrings. Additional glass/supplies may be purchased. Intro. to Mosaic Glass: Create one mosaic glass suncatcher or two coasters. Tools and supplies provided. Additional glass/supplies may be purchased.
Intro. to Stained Glass: Choose either a stained glass suncatcher, picture frame, or two coasters. Tools and supplies provided except for your personal soldering iron. Additional glass/supplies may be purchased.  

Theater and Trips at the Gamber Center
New Dinner Theater Trip: "All Shook Up" Wed., August 6, 2008. Registration Deadline: July 23, 2008. This musical comedy combines all-time favorite Elvis songs with a rock-and-roll story. The romantic tale of a girl's dream-come-true when a guitar-playin' Harley-ridin' mystery man turns the town upside down with his hip-swivelin', lip-curlin', and sexy song singing. Enjoy hits like "Jailhouse Rock," "Heartbeat Hotel," "Blue Suede Shoes," and "Don't Be Cruel." Fee: $47.00, includes transportation, meal, and show. Pick-up Locations/Times: Bank of LS/10:40 a.m., Gamber Center/10:50 a.m.
WWI Museum and Fred Harvey's Trip: Wed., Sept. 24, 2008. Registration Deadline: Sept. 10, 2008. Visit the only WWI Museum in the nation. View artifacts, and learn more about a time that both tore the world apart and united our country. We'll then go to Fred Harvey's at Union Station for more flashbacks. Lunch is on your own. Fee: $30.00, includes transportation and admission. Pick-up Location/Time: Gamber Center/10:50 a.m.
New Dinner Theater Trip: "The Last Romance" Wed., November 5, 2008. Registration Deadline: Oct. 22, 2008. See Marion Ross in a heartwarming boy-meets-girl comedy. What makes this one unique is that the boy and girl are seniors! They discover that love like aging is not for the weak or those without a sense of humor. Ralph is a vigorous, full-of-life octogenarian with an eye for the ladies. Carol is an attractive, well-dressed woman of a certain age who never expected another chance at love. Fee: $47.00, includes transportation, show, and meal. Pick-up Locations/Times: Bank of LS/10:40 a.m., Gamber Center/10:50 a.m.

Dance Classes at the Gamber Center
(Offerings and Availability May Be Subject to Change)
Basic Ballroom: Learn the basic steps of ballroom dance, and move like Fred and Ginger! Beginner Line Dance: This class is for anyone who has always wanted to try line dancing or even those with a little experience.
Line Dance: We continue our lessons with more detailed steps. Western Couples: Grab a partner, and try this form of Western dance.

"Just for Fun" at the Gamber Center (Offerings and Availability May Be Subject to Change)
Join us for Bridge/Cards on Wed. and Fri., 12:30-4:00 p.m. in the Shenandoah Room. $1.00. Drop-in card games M-F, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Bistro.
Beginner Bridge Lessons: For those who have very little or no Bridge experience.
Brush-up Bridge: It's not necessary that you remember everything about the game, just have a willingness to learn. Play hands and discuss problems with either bidding or playing. The object is to have fun, relearn, and perhaps learn something new!
Help with Genealogy: Learn how to trace your family roots by accessing vital records via the Internet.
